13K Github stars and why star count isn't our primary metric

⭐ We hit 13K GITHUB STARS!!! What a big milestone!!
But.. what if we told you that we stopped tracking star count as a top line metric 6 months ago?
Star count is similar to user signups. It's a vanity metric.
It's a great metric that's guaranteed to be up-and-to-the-right, and help you feel good, but you can't eat Github stars for dinner
It's a representation of "this is interesting and cool!" which doesn't always translate well to "this will become a sustainable business"
What are better metrics to make sure Skyvern's headed in the right direction?
Here are some of the metrics we track
- Usage (# of tasks run per day / week)
- Revenue (how effectively we monetize those tasks)
- Number of customers (how many different peolpe are using us)
- Number of paying customers
- Number of net new signups per day
- Number of successful first runs (good new user experience)
- Net new user to paying user conversion rate
...
Metrics tell you parts of the story. It's our job as founders to connect the dots and move towards global maximums
