13K Github stars and why star count isn't our primary metric

⭐ We hit 13K GITHUB STARS!!! What a big milestone!!

But.. what if we told you that we stopped tracking star count as a top line metric 6 months ago?

Star count is similar to user signups. It's a vanity metric.

It's a great metric that's guaranteed to be up-and-to-the-right, and help you feel good, but you can't eat Github stars for dinner

It's a representation of "this is interesting and cool!" which doesn't always translate well to "this will become a sustainable business"

What are better metrics to make sure Skyvern's headed in the right direction?

Here are some of the metrics we track

  1. Usage (# of tasks run per day / week)
  2. Revenue (how effectively we monetize those tasks)
  3. Number of customers (how many different peolpe are using us)
  4. Number of paying customers
  5. Number of net new signups per day
  6. Number of successful first runs (good new user experience)
  7. Net new user to paying user conversion rate
    ...

Metrics tell you parts of the story. It's our job as founders to connect the dots and move towards global maximums
